Fitted Decat But Its Blowing

  RB 182
As title, its blowing at the manifold join! Its one of the most fiddley exhausts ive fitted, i cant seem to get it to seal! Its a KTec one too so should be good fit id of thought?

Anyone else had this problem?

I spent many hours under my car trying to solve blowing from a sportscat and eventually gave up. I just dont think its a good design on the clio.

Might take it down the dreaded kwik fit?! What you reckon, they've gotta have most experience fitting exhausts!

  BMW M3
Yeah, in there defence i went there because i just couldnt be arsed getting the axle stands out again and they did a better job than me as they had proper tools and better clamps, also helps if there have more than one person to push the parts togther. Just make sure you catch them when they are quiet so you get the better guys helping.

Still wouldnt go there for anything else though.

You may just need a new Gasket kit... Its not Cheap but I am getting 1 soon as my car is slightly blowing from that join on my 182

I got a cat fitting it from the dealer recently. iirc it was around 25 quid. came with o'ring seal, springs bolts and nuts. I'll dig out the part number.

For 172 yea?

If its blowing at the manifold join then the above kit is definitely what your after. It shouldnt really blow. I've had experiences with a few of those renault manifold downpipe joins and they seem fine

joking arent you - you are a technician and you are going to take an exhaust job to quik fit????

look at where its not crushing the gasket and see whats what might have a high spot etc

one of my 172's had a decat from Ktec and tbh in 12 months of owning it, I could never get it to stop blowing.

mines blowing at this joint too... does the renault kit include any paste? or is it just that metal gasket?

quite annoying :(

The only that springs to mind about silicone is bathroom sealent and my mothers breasts

Neither would be suitable for sealing an exhaust.

you can seal it with exhaust silicone?! (never heard of it)

where does one acquire such stuff?!

hahaha at the "exhaust silicone" comments..

Any kind of normal silicone will seal an exhaust, better than all that paste rubbish aswell!

I'm confused, are people being sarcastic? :dapprove:

cover the metal gasket from the downpipe to the manifold with silicone? :dead:

i've fixed mine with silcone once. work paid for it hehehe:rasp: so don't know where to get it from, but try unipart they normally have stuff like that

Manifold to cat should never be sealed. Its designed to move about (obvious)

The silicone thing is NOT a joke. Have a search :)

i think the silicone stuff you are talking about is actually exhaust paste but should not be used infront of the cat, or where the cat has been

haha its bog standard silicone... nothing exhaust related!

Silicone is the best exhaust sealent i use/can think of, the exhaust paste you can buy just dries up and cracks after awhile
