Fitting a 172 into a 1.2

  RenaultSport clio 172 mk2
Any one done this? Sorry if its a repost. A friend has a badly damaged rear ended 172 and im thinking of either slaping the lump in my missus or a customers car.
Any advice? Easy enough for my mechanic who is very good? What do i need to strip from the 172? Everything? Cheers.

u need.

loom, block, box, shafts, sub frame, brakes, suspension, rad ,unlocked ecu, ignition ring, p/s pum , alt etc...

it wil just bolt in.. then need to fit the new loom etc.

also there are 2 engines. pre 2001 would go in a mrk2 phs1 no probs but would need a standalone in a mrk2 to run cable throttle etc

2001> will go in a mrk2 no danger,

you will not need the rear beam the stock drums for rear will do...

a few have done them.. 16v_jon has a gudden

Strip everything out of the 172 and stick in the 1.2 there the same shells. Thats the easy way.

I'd be tempted to buy a new 172 shell last time I checked they were £1.2k but you could get one on discount for about £800 I'd bet and then have it re registered as a crash repair 172.
A good mecahnic should be able to do it will take a bit as your striped two cars back to there basic shell and swoping engine loom PAS gearbox etc. With the right tools (4 post lift) it would be easier as you can lift the whole sheel off and over the engine geabox etc all in one package.

Ben your fogetting if you've a whole car it doesn't matter what the doner car is as you can fit a pre 2001 into a post 2001 or vice versa.

mmmm, something to think about with the shell but as said i guess it doesnt matter what the 172 goes into!
Guess if i did swap the whole 172 into a new shell it would only be worth a 1.2 any way once it comes to re sale?

i would have thought it was worth less to be honest? as your average person doesnt want a 1.2 clio with a 2.0 engine because of all the insurance hastle.. but might be worth a bit more to the right person

Yep a crash repair 172 would be worth more IMO.
