Fitting a strut brace

Now i aint that good when it comes to fiddling with cars, i got me a k-tec front strut brace thinking it would be easy to fit and i am obviously doin something wrong, it doesn't seem to sit flat like the ecu bracket is gettin in the way, thought it would be straight forward (apart from the bloody drilling of course), plus it seems to sit really close to the engine, any help i would be most grateful thanks in advance.

Looking at makavellis engine bay ( most photographed on CS , lol ) the strut brace just misses the ecu cover and the top of the engine , especially if you have the engine cover on .

my omp strut brace (which looks rather like the new ktec one but red instead of polished...) has an indent underneath it so that it clears the ecu. are you sure you got it the right way round? the adjustable bit goes on the drivers side. I see on the ktec site they reakon its been difficult to get a brace for the 172...... they shoulda called OMP! had mine for years and so have plenty of other cliosporters!

Yep was putting it the right way round, cheers for the help anyway, if it stops rainin gonna have another go today, i will let u know how i get on.

Nice one, did you notice a difference? I felt a slight difference through the steering - seems more precise.

pics and a description of how easy/hard it was to fit, im gonna get the polished one for my car just after xmas and would like to know how it clears the ecu etc.
did you have to move/cut anything?

Sorry bout the big pics, when lining the strut up it looked as though the ecu was gonna get in the way but when i tightened it all up it was fine, very close but fine and also the clearance from the engine is fine which again i didnt think it would be. I wasn't happy at first with drilling but sadly enough for this brace 2 holes have to be drilled either side, I'm kinda crap when it comes to drilling but took my time and i am pleased with the result, took it for a bit of a spin but wet roads so didn't really push it so no difference noticed although i doubt there would be much anyway would there. Anyway i'm happy with the bay, probably not to everyones taste but posted pics anyway, enjoy.

There is no point in fitting it - if you fit it with tappers.... its going to brace sweet FA.

if the ecu bracket is in the way/close to the brace then take an angle grinder to it like i did then touch up with a bit of paint and bobs your uncle

Er yeah i used nut and bolt not self tappers which were supplied with brace (bloody k-tec)
