Fitting an air filter to a 1.2 - easy?

Hi, I've just bought an '06 1.2 Clio Campus and would very much like to increase the engine power The downside tho is that I have close to zero modding experience - the most I've done is install some silvervisions!

So, my question is - would it be difficult to install a drop-in air filter onto my engine? I've read about it in "The Dummies' Guide to Car Mods" and it describes air filters as very easy to install and a cheap way to get slightly more power and a nice a sporty-sounding engine, just what i want

How hard is it? Do you have to have some kind of mechanic-type knowledge to install it, and if not, how exactly does it fit on? Do you simply unscrew the old filter and put a new one on? Plus, what filter should i buy? (looking to spend as little money as possible, under £100 if possible!) Can anything potentially go wrong?

Sorry for the ignorance but I just don't want to wreck the engine of my nice new car. I'm not a klutz and I pick up new skills quite quickly, but I've got no idea of how to go about this supposedly easy task lol

Won't gain any power, you'll get a varying level of induction noise depending on which filter you fit. Not difficult at all for most of them.

Ah cheers mate, thanks a lot The top link you gave me looks pretty kl, but what's the differences between the KF1, KF2, KF3 etc? They all seem to the same price... do they give different effects or something? Thanks again

you wont gain power, more likely lose power with some of the kits.

I have a K&N 57i induction kit,
The old airbox was so restrictive, and the position meant that the engine heated the air wayyy too much.
My new filter with cold air feed has given a noticeable increase in performance to mid range revs (..as much as an air filter can give.. probably 2bhp or somethin )
