I read something a while back that when fitting Pagids you need to file down part of the pads as Pagids dont fit into the caliper properly. Is this true?
Brake squeel without the shims, but it may not happen. You might also get a slight knocking noise when you go into reverse as the pads move.
I've had various pads fitted to mine and most have needed some filing down. Although I'm thinking that my calipers are at the poor side of manufacturing tolerances - Mark Fish tends to get issues with mine, but not with others. He loves working on my car!
I took the shims out when I ran Pagids, squealing was rare for me...never had any pad/caliper rattle either.
Not like the Carbon Lorraines anyway, they make a continual metal on metal banging racket. They only shut up on track when they heat/swell and fit properly.
Didn't have time to get the brakes done at the weekend, partly because I was asked for 90 quid which I thought was expensive to replace front discs/pads, 4 x braided hoses, replace brake fluid (I'm a tight-git but did feel that was expensive).
Have called on a friend who use to rally a manta. He hates working on french cars but said he'd do the brakes for me this Thursday.
"most" racing pads are slightly oversized due to the way they're manufactured, when cold they'll fit in the carrier no problem, but as you know metal when hot expands and they then become "sticky" in the caliper which can lead to excessive heat build up and knackered callipers, oh and also terrible squealing!
with the shims in they take up extra space, plus they get COVERED in s**t and cause more problems with sticking pads, not what you want when going flat out
