Fitting Sabelt Wheel, Any Help ?

  R26
Well i should be getting a Sabelt wheel this week, but what else do i need to have it fitted and working? Boss & PH1 stalk for the horn? Is that it?
Also does anyone around my area (Whitby) or Sheffield, have a clue with wiring, who could give me a hand, as i havent got the foggiest what im doing :)

Cheersss x

You need the correct ohm rated resistor to replace the airbag otherwise the service light will come on - I can send you some with it if you want?

IIRC they are £200 per resistor ;)

Yeah feel free to send me some if you can,

might have to budge on the price of them slightly :p

I will help you. dunno wtf i am doing though.

Haha cheers! I aint got a clue either, didnt really think this one through, just going to buy all the bits then find someone i can pay to fit it all i think :)

let me know how you get on with this as im getting a wheel soon?
anyone anyidea how easy it is to do the resisters and horn, do they all just clip together?

Not really. You have to mod the phase 1 stalk indicator cancel. You need the cancel pin from your phase 2 stalk, and put it in the phase 1. Not a big job, just a little fiddly. Horn wires up on the two outside metal pins of the phase 1 stalk connector.

You need x2 resistors, anything from 3-6 ohms is fine. About 25p from Malpins.

The airbag plug. Ditto the seats. If you need help give me a shout, Redditch ain't far for me.
Edit: 182's have 2 airbag plugs for the steering wheel, so you'll need 2 resistors.

Will do so, or see Mr Fred at the same time? Bought a stash of 3ohm & 5 ohm just in case, just awaiting the buckets to be delivered.

How do u put in the resistors? Do you need to soldor them together? Same for airbag? Would be odeal if someone made a thread with pics

there is some pics in one of the previous threads that covered it.

no soldering needed, just bung them in and tape them up.

Yup, or put a bit of solder on the ends to thicken them up a bit. I think there was a picture showing the steerign wheel connection but not the seats... are these the same?

ahh rite, ive seaeched and searched n never found one. Any ideas how many resistors needed? And what abwt cruise control, just leave the wires behind ther ?

ok,

when you take the wheel off you'll end up with the two wires and connectors (shown in the pic on that link) these were the old airbag connections. what you need to do is basically fold the resistor in half so you have the two metal legs running parallel to each other and slot them into the end of the airbag connectors as shown in that pic. they maybe a bit loose, if thats the case then either fold the ends of them over again to make them a bit thicker, or just tape them inplace. or a blob of solder if your a bit more capable.

this will stop the airbag lights coming on, the horn i cant help you with as ive not bothered with mine. eventually goin to fit a ph1 stalk but cba at the min.

oh and ref the cruise, unless you make up your own mounts for the buttons its not going to work, so the wires you can just leave tucked inside the boss somewhere.

thanks, il probly be less confused when i get the wheel off and see it infront of me.
so, when the wheel comes off, how many wires exactly will i see?is ther 2 airbag wires and a wire for the horn?
are the wires that come with the hub used for the airbag?

yep definatley will be.

erm, mines probably different as i didnt have cruise but, you will have two airbag wires and a horn wire. all with the same sort of connectors.

with mine, a momo boss, i didnt bother using the wire that came with it, just went for the resistors instead, but i think you can use it, but you'll need to make another one up anyway so resistors are probably just as easy.

its honestly not a hard task, just make sure you dont let the little plastic disc behind the wheel spin round when you take it off....

If you get the right resistors then it will work. Ive mounted 4 push buttons onto my aftermarket wheel, shall post the results when its fitted. Shoult have full cruise control :) not that I use it lol

yeh thats pretty much what i said :) unless your able to mount the buttons from the original wheel it wont work. someones already done it on here.
