Fixed bucket seats - anyone been for MOT?

Was chatting to a VOSA MOT tester down at BMW this week when I popped in.

Got to chatting about my clio and he said the new legislation regarding having sliding front seats fitted from factory was now enforceable at MOT (my buckets are on sliders so no issue)

Wondered if anyone had come up against this yet, apparently the old 'if its not there you can't test it' does not apply

Mine passed fine with fixed buckets, harness's and air bag lights on. In August of this year through a legitimate tester that I went to as it was the cheapest.

It was only this week I was chatting to him, he was out doing MOT re-certification for the testers.

comes under a special sub section. Remove rear seats and they can't complain, it's only a rear passenger safety issue

If you remove the rear seats you have to remove the rear seat belts too,
I have to put my rear seats back in every MOT time because it would fail based on the fact that it has seat belts but no seats.

More than one MOTer has told me that over the years.

This MOT stuff is all speculation and it does my fcuking head in.

Until they start failing stuff, don't worry about it. If it doesn't affect you personally, then there is zero point in worrying.

Whilst I agree 99% is speculation, this guy was not just a random MOT tester, he was the Tester of MOT testers from VOSA.

He may have decided to just go on a wind up and make comment as I'd got the buckets in the clio, just seems strange he would mention it without reason.

no, you're right, it's definitely a rule they're bringing in. When is altogether another matter, as they've put off some of the new rules indefinitely

Its not a dig at you J, its just a gripe of mine in general.

I get no end of people coming into the garage talking about it and it grips my s**t. (most of the people waiting for their MOT at the place next door come to wander around my forecourt)

Unless my car is on the ramp, with the MOT tester waving a failure certificate at me, I'm not interested in what they're planning to do next year or in 10 years. There is always speculation regarding MOT's and 99 times out of 100, it remains just that, speculation.

If they fail my car, I'll change whats failed and re present it. It's not anything to worry about! lol.

No worries mate, didn't take it as a dig ;). And I know what you mean about the general public.

The amount of people I have had to explain to that their 99 Nissan Micra won't fail it's MOT as its not got DLR's fitted is laughable.

Mine passed last week with fixed buckets. Tester said the seat had to move as intended - it was never intended to move.
