quite a bad screeching/squeek noise coming from the engine bay on startup and sometimes when changing gear, think it is the auxillery belt?... how do i fix it, or does it need replacing?
Can normally just tighten.........or just replace because they are only a few quid.
It squeeks because it is loose, need to get it done asap, Because it is loose it means the alternator wont be working propperly, thus not charging the battery to full capacity!
ahhh that explains why when i was sitting with just my stereo on yesterday for about 10 mins, tried to start it and the battery had died?... needed a good bump starting lol
Quite an easy job to, just a spanner to loosen the alternator bracket, swing it to one side to get the old belt off, new one on and pull tight and do-up bolt......
Do not overtighten though as it will damage the alternator, think a rule is, you should be able to turn the belt about 1/4 of the way.......in the center of the two pullys.
thanks dude, will give it a go later... if i dont change the belt, does the same principle apply, just undo and pull tight and re tighten the bolt?
thanks

update: well me and my brother had a good look at it, cant see where the bolt is for the alternator, it seems to ber very hidden underneath the engine bay hmm..... got apic of a bolt which seems to be connecting to the alternator from what i can see... is this the one i undo and then wedge the alternator back??
Are you sure its the belt, it could be the thrust bearing on the clutch. After starting move the clutch up and down and listen to the squeak to see if it changes pitch or stops.
definately the belt, you dont have to be moving, even in neutral and revving it will do it 1-3k... also had a mate rev it and i heard it come from the belt, trying to work out how to tighten it up, hmm
rockin on!... replied in spotted, also yeah biff has heard it too, deffo the belt, just i can buy a new one, fitting it a fookin b**ch though, really hard to get to it
