Flashing Light on Dash?

  LY V6 with Recaros
I had the light above the gear change one start flashing at me last night. I turned the engine off and back on again and it stopped for a few moments, then it started flashing again. I just left it this time and it went off after a minute or so.

The manual says it's something to do with the exhaust...anyone know exactly why it could have came on. I have an aftermarket exhaust, but I remember it doing it once ages ago before I put the exhaust on.

Should I just forget about it unless it happens again or take it to Renault? I imagine that being a bit of a waste of time tbh..

Could be the lambda (sp) sensor. I wouldn't take it to Renault though, they will want to do a diagnostic on it first, which costs roughly £80, and that's before they find out what's wrong.

I think its the Gas light which means that the Lamba sensor has a fault or the CAT isnt doing its job. My guess is the Lamba sensor, its worth getting a mechanic to have a look it might be that the sensor has come lose from the CAT.

Is that something minor or will it need sorting asap? I don't fancy taking it to Renault!

Typical! The car's under warranty, but if the exhaust has affected it in any way the I take it that part wont be covered under warranty still!

If Renault suspect your new exhaust may have caused the problem then they will not cover it under warranty. They will try to wriggle out of it anyway, we all know what Renault dealers are like.

Exactly, that's what I'm worried about, even if it has nothing to do with the exhaust, they will probably tell me it has!

Reanult wont touch the car for warranty work if the exhaust has been changed, best bet is to pop over to some one like Mark Fish who i believe have a diog system in Harlow, and get them to have a look, like i said it may just have worked its way lose and if so it is easy to tighten up. If the sensor has got a fault, you should be able to pick these up from Renault not sure what sort of cost, but it shouldnt be a major job.

Does it only happen when you start the car from cold, if it does my intiall thought might be the CAT, as when the engine warms up and the auto choke settles down the car will have less emmisions and therefore the sensor would pick up a normall reading. If its happening while the engine is warm as well, it will be the sensor with a fault.

Hope this helps

OH I forgot to say if it is a faulty CAT be expected to pay some big bucks for a OE Replacement, It may be worth seeking a sports CAT or a decat will work out cheaper than RENAULT OE.

Thanks for the advice. Hope it's not nothing expensive :( It happened when the engine was hot, had been driving for a while but was in traffic at the time.

Will it be ok to leave it for a while, or does it need looking at asap, only I'm taking my car to Mark Fish for its 24K service, but it's not due yet, would rather wait and get everything done at once!

If it doesn't do it again then could it be possible my car was just have been having a 'moment' lol?

I would keep an eye on it if it continues to do it on a regular basis I would get it looked at, it might just be a dodgy connection. I had it happen a few months back coming back home from the Isle of Wight. since then it has been fine and got a mate a Renault to put it on the computer, nothing came up.

I have since checked the sensor and made sure the plug is fixed securley, it just screws into the CAT. It may be worth if you get chance jacking the car up and checking.

On another not how much is the 24k service a Mark Fish looks like i will be taking the car down to him now BB have stoped servicing.

Thanks. I'll keep an eye on it, if it does it regularly I better get it checked over then. Might get it jacked up at the weekend just in case :)

When I called him up a couple of months ago he quoted me around £200 for the 24k service. It's quite expensive, but still cheaper than my last service at Renault, and I know it will be in safe hands!

Mine just started doing this after 2 or 3 mins on tickover on my gf's drive after driving her the approx 2 miles home, I didn't have a clue what it meant or how serious it was so switched off the ignition as soon as I saw it, it didn't reappear on the drive home and I deliberately left it idling for several mins when I got home and didn't come up again...

Is there any reason it would come on while the engine is warm without there being a fault? It didn't reappear and I've never seen it before... I'll see if it comes up on the drive to work in the morning.

if its the lambda sensor before the cat get it sorted asap as your car will be chucking in unburnt petrol down your cat, after cat one is not so much of a worry.but is an expensive part, renault price £90 for second lambda sensor :quiet:

It hasn't done it since, so don't know whether to just forget about it for now, and just keep an eye on it
