Flashing Red light on the Dash ? Am I going mad ? 02 172

Hello.

This evening I noticed - every time I turn off the ignition, a red light between 'stop' and 'service' starts flashing on the dashboard. There is also a small red light by the gear stick which does the same. This is a few seconds after the ignition is off but the key does not have to be removed. It continues to do this while the car is locked overnight ect...

When car is started - these lights go off and stay off.

I have had the car a fairly long time and have been sat in there watching fireworks ect... and never seen this thing flashing before.

I've looked in the owners manual and it says it does flash but only when the key is removed.

Has anyone else had this problem? Could someone point me in the correct direction? Or could I possibly be very stupid and have never noticed before?

It's the immobiliser. It's meant to do that.

I'm sure i'm not going crazy. lols.

It would have happened, you just didn't notice it.

Pretty sure the immobiliser one is on the dash and the alarm one is the one next to the handbrake, as that is fitted post-factory.
