Focus RS vs CTR vs me!

Well it was hardly an awe inspiring race to be honest, i saw a focus at a junction which i was coming up to quite fast and he pulled out, i was getting ready to hang back and then i saw someone in a CTR right up the Fords arse obviously looking for some fun. At this point i either had to slam on the brakes so not to rear end the mugs or just use my momentum to breeze past them. Since getting my numberplate i have been conscious of not making clios seem slow so i usually trundle around but i couldnt resist this one! I changed down to third and overtook them both, we then all went over a roundabout and i thought id quit while im ahead and went down a one way road, clio rep still intact!

The point of the thread though was what i thought of the Ford RS, to be honest it looked really good, the deep front bumper looked very menacing, the CTR just looked like an MPV. However i thought the colour didnt help, it seems to be a different one to the blue on the cossies? It was more like a cadburys purple! What are everyone elses thoughts on the Focus? I also saw an ST170 on the way back, thought it looked good too.

I saw an ST170 and thought "wow"... Its suprising how different it is to a normal Focus in looks!

Saw the front of a Focus RS and thought, "Is that an RS?" - Did look nice though - although, you INSTANTLY know an Escort Cosworth, no thinking about it like the Focus RS.. (what gave it away on the Focus was the colour!)

MPV?? Where you get that from Rob? An MPV is the Jazz maybe or a Clio but not a Type R they sit lower than clios and are bigger....

LoL @ Rob! hisssss to the MPV!!! :devilish:

The focus is a mean beefy looking car! Without a doubt! The arches are fat, The wheels are fat, the colours fat, but then again so is the price. But all in all i think it would be worth it! They do look a lot different from any other Focus.

The ST170 is a bit more suttle compared to the RS but still is well nice. I really like the focus! Nice cars to drive, handle superb! But as i keep saying...

Bring on the Focus Cosworth!!! That will eat us all.:D

There are LOADS of CTRs around here.. Probably 10 - 15 to every 1 172... Amazing.

Not neccessarily!!! If its not an MPV then it must be a VOLVO ESTATE! :D

LOL.... Na I wont afford insurance on a scooby.... Anyway if something comes out better than a type r for the same sort of money then I will have that.... I want something a little bigger than a clio coz its hard f**king in the back of clios.....

I saw that espace at goodwood, it was mental! The driver (jenson button?) almost lost it as well, it was wheel spinning and diving around in every gear. mad!

Honestly steve the Focus looked a lot better than the CTR (remember i said i was warming to it as well?)

Get an S2000, far more respect on the road than a CTR. They look gorgeous, are not that common and are quite quick to boot!

anyway, thats what I went for!

I will list them shall I.....

Against a Clio

1. They seem weak, could be a poor design.

2. Steering rattles a lot when going over bumps etc.

3. Renault after care service is not exactly mind blowing.

4. I want something bigger for next car, something where I can have people in the back etc.

5. Faults, faults, faults and faults thats all I seem to get....!

6. Gearbox...... well..... not Jap engineering is it...

7. Its French and they didnt help us with this war....

For a Clio

1. Cheap

2. Good handling

3. Looks good

when I drive in it everyone looks, Id call that respect and admiration. Not as fun or as fast as my Cup but pure style for a nice price

Steve bearing in mind the performance clios share almost nothing with the lesser models how can you make a definitive judgement on Clios?

No thats what you get when any cars built in the uk

2. Steering rattles a lot when going over bumps etc.

Not happened on mine

3. Renault after care service is not exactly mind blowing.

True, but you get that at any dealer you go to, Renault or Honda.

4. I want something bigger for next car, something where I can have people in the back etc.

Why not buy a Zafria GSi then, loads of room lol

5. Faults, faults, faults and faults thats all I seem to get....!

Unlucky, take it back under warrenty or if you own an old one, look harder for a mint condition one, mine doesnt have any faults in the 2 1/2 yrs Ive owned it.

6. Gearbox...... well..... not Jap engineering is it...

Agreed, CTR gearbox is top notch

7. Its French and they didnt help us with this war....

Really an excuse not to buy a french car thats made in uk anyway?

IMO, 172 does everything the CTR does but cheaper and better specd.

build quality on the honda is superb and its built in the uk !!!! the honda dealers have been superb also ...even let me off on parts and labour not covered by the warranty !!! best dealers yet for me

But thats one dealer, it all differs from dealer to dealer no matter what manufacturer, some Renault dealers have been fantastic from what people have said on here, some arseholes!

My renault dealer are suberb. They are always up for helping me out with things, Friend works there so get discount on everything, and they even let me give my car a quick clean if cruising by! All v.friendly and never ever had a problem. :D

But then again i dont know what the grass is like on the other side.

Oh well we can chat about this forever..... Its never going to end. End of the day we are all into cars and driving them so who cares...

Where does Sadam Hussain keep his CDs ...... In Iraq !!:D

Did you also know that Motown legend Edwin Starr the soul singer, best known for his 1970 hit War which reached number one in the US and three in the UK, died at the age of 61 of a suspected heart-attack on Wednesday April 2nd at his British home in Nottinghamshire.

He was at my last christmas party you know?

The Focus RS is under 20k I think - £19,995 or something & about £17 on import I think. The CTR looks nice from some angles but is very ugly from others! A bread van possibly!

  H22A7 Accord Type R

Steve............SKODA OCTAVIA RS!!!!!!!!! Huge room, boot big enough to live in.........Turbo........chipped to 220bhp..........DIFFERENT and very underestimated by a lot of people ;)..............dont forget the German build quality and German parts everywhere :D
