Folder Permissions Over a Small Network

  2014 Focus Titanium
Here is a very detailed and illustrative complex diagram of my high-tech network at work.

I need to secure the shared folders on the computer and the laptop so that people on the Wi-Fi can't get in. Now, I have hidden the shared folders on said systems by putting $ at the end of the shared names.

Now I want to further increase my security by setting folder permissions on the folders so that only certain users can get into the folders.

When I go to add users in permissions it won't let me add a user off the other computer. Is this because I'm not on a domain or something? They're both obviously on the same network (MSHOME). If i need to create a domain, how is this done? If I don't, where am I going wrong?

Cheers

Alan

If your not using a domain, you may have to add the user to the local computer as a account name. Share the folders with full access and use NTFS permissions to control the access to the folders
