2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS

Car of the Day 10.13.2009

Worth the wait, redefining the modern musclecar, blowing away the competition is how the all-new 2010 Camaro SS is being hyped. While we appreciate all the throwback, retro styling in the latest ‘modern musclecars’ we also hope the shortcomings of the originals do not come along for the ride…things like lackluster handling, Spartan interiors and single-digit mpgs.
The new GM seems to have done it right. The 2010 Camaro is more than a straight-line blaster as its modern, independent multi-link suspension set-up (a first for any Camaro) is as capable splitting cones on an autocross course as its is splitting seconds at the local dragstrip. Musclecar mania started in the 1960s when automakers began dropping big engines in small cars and the new Camaro SS plays true to this theme with its brutish 426-horsepower, 6.2-liter V8. The SS model's 20-inch wheels and Brembo brakes add at touch of style while providing the thrills its low, wide and hunkered stance promises.

The Camaro SS should be a hit with tuners and painters alike as the LS3 V8 is primed for power mods, it is far more than a straight-liner in stock form and the car’s stylistic body begs for racing liveries and other personalized expressions of speed.

f**k!

That Forza League Focus and the ODST RX8 look mental!!

PAL version is being uploaded to all the usual suspects now. I'm staying up lol. Also, if you haven't got a pre-order done yet, get it from Blockbuster, it's £39.99 for the Limited Edition (extra cars and a keyring).

How do people do these designs? They must take hours. They should have made it so you can put photos on cars or something, I know the main idea is sim racing but the paint jobs where a very popular part of fm2.

Reason they've not done that is because of the community of painters that have appeared who in some cases don't even race. You take that away and it becomes an unskilled part of the game and you risk irritating/losing that fan base because anyone can make a race rep etc. You also have the issue of people putting offensive images such as p**n on cars.

I guess.

I must admit I didn't get on with the demo, I think mainly because of the track. But I played the full one today and wow. It looks superb, I've got 5.1 and it sound like your actually in the car. I've never had a steering wheel but I may invest in one just for this. The cars just go exactly where you want them. Scirocco looks amazing.

I've opted to reserve in my local Asda for that reason, also rumoured it will be cheap

Well I have a cunning plan, as detailed a few pages back.

Blockbuster doesn't arrive, go to Gamestation, buy on my Store Card. When Blockbuster game arrives, take sealed game back to Game and get money put back on my store card.

Saying that, I'm actually confident Blockbuster deliveries will arrive, even taking into account the stupid postal strike.

They do realise that's someone sat there rocking the thumbstick very slightly don't they? lol

Lol they really are asses....I suppose they think it would be better to have to ring the police and fire brigade...wait for an hour and have a recovery truck come and pull your car back over!

Chris

tbh they have to find something to pass the next 6months (minimum) ontop of the 5 years they've had to run out of productive things to do. They all think there is a conspiracy theory where MS have paid off every single global games reviewer to get the AAA scores they have.

They were more bemused by the fact you actually have the ability to try and flip the car using the thumbstick, and the illusion that gives off after countless attempts.

Ok, so I have to buy this game.

A. Do I pre-order on play.com or anywhere else?

B. Buy in store after release?

C. Get the VIP pack edition?

I'm just going to leave my order with Shopto.net as is, what happens, happens. My brother is down for the weekend anyway, so I can easily occupy myself with things to go out and do.

If you think you're likely to get some decent amount of time in I'd get the LCE (this contains all the VIP stuff) as there are the additional cars plus apparently T10 will be gifting VIP's extra content after release too. It was discussed in that long pitpass podcast I posted up last night.

This game... IS AWESOME

Was playing it from 4am until I passed out this morning. You get new cars pretty quickly, I've just got the Focus RS which I have to say. I hate.

Also got an MX5 replica of my own (shame you can't change wheel offsets as my wheels which should be wide ass bitches are sat 10 miles in the arch) along with a Supra TT.

Sound effects are better than I was led to believe, but far from perfect, graphics are very very nice, game is very fluid and just seems really polished all round.

The one gripe that's really annoying me at the moment though is that whilst you're in career going from race to race, you can click "Quick Tune" at virtually any point, but to upgrade manually you have to go back to the main menu. Not a deal breaker, but it's the only thing other than sound effects that I can complain about.

Is there a decent selection of modifications available, such as bodykits and alloys?

Are there BMW CSL style alloys?

I'm sure one of the guys will confirm but apparently there's a shitload more wheels to choose from this time round.

khunt lets hope we can get you chris chris me alex powey etc all in the same lobby on this game with no uberlag missile pwnage.

It'll probably work to be honest, it was never a problem on any game but F2, if they've not fixed that then they actually are hopeless.

I've not installed disk2 yet, which is where I'm guessing most of the wheels are, because it doesn't seem like there's that many at the moment (on disk1).
