Found this under my bonnet

Anyone know where in my engine bay this 182 part is from (http://www.wdart.co.uk/cliosport/182part.jpg)

I popped my 182 's bonnet open to check the oil and it was sitting in behind the battery. Haven't got a clue where it came from or how it got there. It looks like a pipe of some sort runs through it, likes its there to stop something moving around.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, its really bugging me sitting on my desk!

Hmmm, maybe some padding from around an aircon pipe. Just a guess!

It goes round the air con return pipe up against the bulkhead on the drivers side.
This is a 172, but it shows the principle.

Just check that part out there guys. There is already foam on that part so it must be from somewhere else. The foam on the air con return pipe as photographed above is really soft, the part that I have photographed (http://www.wdart.co.uk/cliosport/182part.jpg) is a pretty solid piece of foam and wouldnt deform easily.

Any more ideas?

its not a bump stop for the bonnet is it? just a guess but i could be right

Yea mate, felt a bit dodgy out with my torch earlier on checking out BrianR's suggestion

May be a silly question,

But why do we have that foam on our Air Con pipes on 172's ?

Its to stop condensation from forming around the bulkhead joint.

That type of foam is non-pourous.

No it wont, the clue is in the word "Stop"..... nothing to soak, run your aircon for a few mins, till the pipe is cold, then take the foam off.
