Found this upon returning to my car the other day. Removing mark off my rear bumper.

Came back to this on the back of my bumper the other day:

Just wondering if anyone knows what the best way to try and remove it is?
As far as I can tell its not actually scratched into the paint, but rather paint off whatever went into it sitting on top of my paint?

Excuse the dirt :p

I'd give it a good going over with some Scratch X, if it's not cut into the plastic it should clean up a treat...

Autoglym Super Resin Polish. Will be off in no time. Scratch X would be a bit too harsh imho as they would probably come off with a cloth, warm water and elbow grease (don't do this though as it will more than likely scratch the paint work)

What rhys said.

If not, mop it with a machine polisher it will be off straight away :)

i very much doubt srp will sort that out. try the scratch-x looks like it will only improve it though i dont think you will 100% remove that

Re: Found this upon returning to my car the other day. Removing mark off my rear bump

Well Its not actually gone through the paint as far as I can tell. Its white paint sitting on top of my paint.
Obviously will probably not be perfect, but should remove the white I'd have thought.

If its not gone through the laquer its reparable with polish mate. yeah the white will go and it will look much better than that.

Try SRP first. It's always best to start with the least abrasive product possible.

I always thought srp had no abrasive properties and was mostly filler. but yeah try a less abrasive product first although judging by looking at that it wants a decent cut and then finish it off with a low cut

SRP has some minor polishing compounds in it, I got out a mark very similar with SRP.

Ahh i see lol iv got some but never really use it though.

Farecla G3 liquid compound on a microfibre cloth, bit of elbow grease. Bit of SRP or similiar over the top if you actually care about swirls.

Re: Found this upon returning to my car the other day. Removing mark off my rear bump

Yea I do care about swirls!

What about the process before using the SRP.
Worth claying over it first, see how that much removes?

Only just recently done a winter prep, so not long been clayed/polished/sealed/waxed (all by hand)

Oh dear Christ.

I did laugh, P1 Gtech or Farcela hard compound? Or a brillo pad, maybe even a dish brush? that might shift something.

T-cut, G3, anything with a bit of cut will piss that off and you'll never even know it was there.

No, actually the liquid compound I mentioned is the finer version of G3. There's also nothing wrong with using it to remove that before polishing it up properly with something else if you're actually bothered about swirl marks/it removing protection. FLOL at comparing it to a brillo pad.

What do you suggest, spending hour after hour gently trying to lift it off with something weak just incase you create some swirl marks that no c**t can see any way?

SRP took me about 5minutes to get it completely off, if that when I had the same with mine.

Re: Found this upon returning to my car the other day. Removing mark off my rear bump

That's genuinely great for you, but if his happens to be deeper/more stubborn than the mark you had on yours, he may want to try something more aggressive so as not to spend all day on the thing, which was my suggestion :).

So you know about swirls and how they're inflicted, but are advising to use a heavy polish? Do you advise people to drive through car washes because it's easier as well?

SRP will get that off if it is, as you state, just sitting on top the paint.

Advising someone to go through a car wash is a little different to inflicting a few swirls on an area that's already covered in some form of paint transfer anyway, which can then be rectified afterwards with something finer if he can see any marks left behind.

Re: Found this upon returning to my car the other day. Removing mark off my rear bump

Swear every detailing thread on here ends in arguments :(

I used SRP in the end. Came off easily, apart from a few marks where its actually damaged my paint.
Thanks for the advice.

It was aimed at 95% of the posts.

Dont pick faults with the posts made then and put in some of your own recommendations?

Im going to have to try some more of my srp never realised it was meant to be that good.

So why suggest G3? Surely inflict as few marks as possible while removing the offending paint transfer?

I'm actually bored reading posts that show total disregard for other peoples cars. Some of the suggestions in the detailing section begger belief. Me and JD used to enjoy helping people out daily sadly it's a free for all these days with shocking advice being given out left right and centre.

It's not even a detailing thread but the answers are the same, people just pipe up with crap advice that might end up damaging peoples cars. The wonder wheels thread case in point.

Or lets take badge glue/tape off with a clay bar! I mean come on!!!

I suggested it as it may have been too stubborn for SRP to remove without sitting there for hours on end. I'd use G3 (on a machine) as I don't care about swirls and I'd just want it gone, the OP may have been the same and would have just wanted it gone using the quickest method within reason.

Ok fair enough then. I wouldnt have said my advice was shocking maybe not 100% correct but would still remove what was possible and bring up a nice swirl free shine. Im not the best but iv managed to remove scratches and leave a good swirl free finish using the same method i mentioned.
