can anybody help? (clio 16v N reg)

I keep getting strange like knockingn oise from front of car when i turn right? also if i take the car out of gear and go round corner (right) this nosie does not happen...

if i go on motorway or just go fast once ive slowed down to halt then move off i get a really bad drone noise???? then it just goes??

oh yeah i dunno if its just me or does you 16v do this >> when move off in first gear then take foot off pedal the car slows down pretty fast.. do the same but when slowing down in neutral it takes a while to roll to a hault?!

any help please!! i need the Clio Bus working!!

yes thats cos 1st isnt really meant for reving mate. It happens with most cars. As for the knocking noise sounds like that triangle shape thingy (lol dont know the name of it, but know what it is) that allows you to turn! and if you leave it i know its very very dangerous!! is it the driveshaft - shot in the dark. not sure about drone noise.

All cars slow down quicker when in gear than in neutral. Its called engine braking.

have to put money on a driveshaft (c/v joint) - with me i thought it was my tyres rubbing on the arche liners (similar noise) then ended up forking out for 2 new driveshafts.....nae cheap! Check you engine mounts at the same time - if theyre fcuked then theyll be increasing wear....

maybe i worded it wrong, but i dont go round driving in first gear it was a test i did... it just slows down faster than normal...

ive had the car check out a number of times and from a visual point they say it is mecanicaly fine>?, even though they can hear the noise...

ive been told by 1 garage its the drivshaft.. but they cant be 100%

as long as its not the gear box... had that done last year

Engine mounts mate - my original clio had the same prob especially when you pull away/stop.

I would say engine mounts as well! I actually had the bit of metal that attaches the gearbox to the mount shear in two and I encountered similar symptoms to those youve described - except ten times worse. Get them checked out by someone who knows what theyre doing

Had the same thing happen on a 205Gti I used to have, I had the top engine mounts replaced and they didnt tighten them up in the correct way which meant the engine was in the bay crooked. This meant it would literally hit the side of the bay during sharp right-handers. I just loosened all the mounts off and the engine virtually sprung to the correct position! The effect of having a worn or more likely broken engine mount would be the same I would have thought, your engine is probably a bit lop sided at the mo!

With no load, ie. when the car is in neutral, the engine does not twist on the mount so no banging is heard. When load is added (ie between the engine and the wheels, the sideways movement of the engine and the power induced twist added together cause it to hit the bay.

sounds like a driveshaft joint is noisy.check the condition of the gaitors to see if they have leaked any grease.

Engine mounts are about £90 + VAT fella for the top one as mine has just been repleced!!

Im getting a drone noise aswell from the front but not sure what it is!!

YEAHHHH!!! problem solved 4 months !!! of pain!!!

it was the rear engine mount, the one next to the mainifold!!! and it was just some dumb ass bolt""!!!

the drone noise wuz the cat (now have de-cat fitted)

all fixed for £20!!
