Front Speakers

anybody know whats the biggest size speaker i can put in the front doors of a Mk2? I dont mind cutting a bit but just want the biggest possile size in the space provided without making new speaker pods etc... Any ideas?

easiest - 13cm comps

simple mods - 17cm comps

anything bigger will be getting into door pod territory

umm... being a novice, ive seem some comp speakers with "crossovers". what do these do and will i need em?

Im runnin 13cm pioneer speakers in the front at the mo and alpine 6X9 rear with sony head

Crossovers seperate the signals going to the mid and the tweeter, so that the sound is clearer. You should get them with components and they do improve the sound quality.

im just put diamond audio M6 components (16cm) in the front doors of my 2003 dynamique...wasnt that difficult to be honest...speakers clear the window easily with the use of a woodern 18mm MDF spacer....needed to dremel the back of the doorcard original speaker pod out to allow the diamond to fit but this was easy enough trimming a bit off at a time...the tweeters we fitted in the original dash locations after removing the dash top and tweeter grills and dremeling the orgiinal tweeter mounts off the dash to allow clearance for the underside of the new tweeters...only gripe is the tweeter cup is slightly to small for the dash and it kinda shows loose bits of material around the edge of the cup...need to make some kinda ring to sit it in but aint got the time so do that again

cool, right now i just need to choose some 16cm components. Any suggestions? i quite fancy going down the alpine route!?

Focal, Diamond, Boston, MB Quart, Genesis, Crystal, Phoenix Gold

against these, i wouldnt choose Alpine
