Front suspension lower ball joints

1st MOT, failed dismally.

Apart from the nail in the sidewall of a rear tyre, it's got excessive wear in one ball joint, slight wear in the other. Requires hub replacement at £200 a side plus 4.5 hrs + VAT.

Rentech Mike says he's never changed one on a 197/200.

Argued the toss with Renault UK (very last day of my 3 year warranty) and got 40% contribution + 3 days car hire paid for. Makes the pain of £500 a bit more bearable.

Anyone else had it? What's caused it?

lower balljoint replacement isn't the hub that has to be changed complete, it's the arm. They're £221 a side inc VAT. Saw one a couple of weeks ago on the same corner as a broken spring, the movement was huge!!

There is another type of ball joint at the base of the hub. and at the top.
