front wheel bearings - easy

i need to do mine, but they look a lot harder than when i did them on my micra. ARe they a tricky job to do?

need to know asap becuase my car is going into have a lower arm replaced today - while they are doing it i am thinking they may aswell do the bearing.

what do you people think?

yeah do the bearings, as they usually need pressed in and out with a hydraulic press, and if you got the hub carrier off anyway, you would be best to do it then, are they making much noise.

well yeah it has got progressively worse, and the bodyshop who is replacing the lower arm+bush (i took it there coz i put the wheel into a kerb in the snow and put everything out of alignment :() reckons the rumbling sound that makes the clio sound like a jumbo crossed with a 5" big bore exhaust is the bearing!

would a bodyshop do the bearing or would they normally send it to someone else to do?

and so they have to take the carrier off to put the lower arm on anyway?

...finally, am i doing the car any damage running with a faulty bearing? am i wearing on anything else?

cheers for your help mate!

oh one more thing...do the bearings go into the discs - if so i might wait tilll ive got my new ktec discs before i do them!

they go into the discs on the back but not at the front, so fire on and you can change your front discs later at your leisure. If the body shop has a bench press they can do it easily, good chance they will, if not run with the hubs to another garage to get it done, two minutes. two things thought make sure they are put in the right way and that they seat flush with circlip, also slap on the supplied grease (with bearings). Also torque them right from the figure in hand book.

When bearings get really bad they break up, and this involved your hub coming off with wheel attached, so yeah could cause damage, but few people can put up with the noise, and get them fixed before, so this doesnt happen that often.

sh*t! didnt realise they could do that - they are really bad, so i think im gonna keep it off the road till friday (the bloke keeps putting me off getting it sorted )

if they go into the back of the discs i presume that means you can swap discs and the bearing will stay where it is? i dont have to relocate it in the new disc?
