FTAO Hybrid Owners

Im thinking about buying this Williams engined Clio http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?t=131518 and was wondering how it works insurance wise...I mean in the advert it says about being ins Gp12 and not 17 as a Williams is.

Surely this is illegal and if theres an accident then my insurance is invalid:S

Aparently this is the one of the main advantages of the 'Hybrid' as it were.

So what have you insured your Hybrid as and those that have declared the engine conversion....did it make much difference to your premium over 1.8 16v?

Thanks

As far as I understand it, you can't tell the difference from the exterior.
I'd imagine if you were to insure it all legit then it'd be more to insure than a Williams - modded cars just cost more to insure.

u can tell by the exauhst manifolds (tubes for willy square for 16v)
and number on gear box is differnt n quite easy to see
yep insurance would be invalid if found out

group 17 is not cheap  but in my experiance its gotta be worth being legal

Its running with the square manifold for sure
Gearbox could of been bought off of ebay or a breakers and would not invalidate insurance....would it? It was advertised as 1.8 16v etc;) actually the same could be said for the complete engine surely??

Thanks

Anyone with anything useful to say?

Pmsl - seriously, apart from the manifold the engines look the same (the dipstick will have a different colour dot on it too ,if the car has had a williams sump fitted to it)
You would be very hard pushed to tell the difference between looking at the two, most hybrids are still logged as 1.8's because of this.

The only way any one would really notice is to drive the car.

ignorance is not a valid excuse (not aimed @ you in any way) that is what would be said by police or insurance
imo if u had a crash and the insurace assesor know anything about clio,s he would know what to look for at most he would take head off and check if he wanted to be sure
id say its 50=50 as to weather they would check in the event of a crash but they will do a lot to get out of paying

also if u bought the engine u would have full access to view engine number that will defo tell u if its 2.0 or 1.8
so saying u didnt know would not cut it

this is just my opinion :D

  53 Clio's & counting
if the insurance company or police looked into it mate they would find oit its 2.0 trust me it was done 2 me,luckly i had insured my hybrid as a 2 ltr so i was ok (i was pulled over and the car was checked over)

just do what i did insure it as a clio 16v with a engine change to a 2.0 ltr im with tesco's and it put my insurance up by 80 pounds a year lol so most def worth declaring
hope that helps :)
