Re: f**ked Ball Joint? (pic)

Is it a continuous knocking/clicking noise when moving on full lock? Could be your CV joints (top of pic) Check the rubber gaiters for splits/damage.
Has the balljoint split?

Likely to be your driveshaft CV joints. as above, check the big rubber gaiters. Jack it up and spin the wheel to check them all round.

i did this the other day tho :S i had the wheels off to check that an annoying squeek which has developed isnt the wheel bearings, at this time i cleaned up the cv joint to make sure there was no leaks, and there was no visible splits all the way around, im really confused as to where the grease is coming from and why its making the knoking, what do i need to replace if this is the problem?

Most likely a new joint or new driveshaft with joint fitted for that side. Where exactly are you finding the grease? is there loads? splits may not be visible to eye so give the rubber boot a squash/press all the way round and in between the gaps.

mot! ooh unlucky! get them sorted asap as they will fail it on them. The grease will just fly everywhere when moving so be careful it doesnt lube up your discs/pads!

s**t, i have one spare, im not sure on the other side and what thats like as i havent checked but will this more then likely solve the knocking on full lock and squeeking?

likely yes, but as you first mentioned - check the lower & track rod end ball joints for play. Use a large screwdriver or pry bar and lever between the top mounting points. rock the wheel up/down & side to side too.

ahh ok, just had new track rod ends fitted, as the old ones had seized, thanks for the help :)
