Fuel tank leaking

Ive done a quick search on here and i think that the seal has gone on the top of the tank/sender unit, ive tried to unscrew the big black ring but with no success, quick question, does it unscrew clockwise or anti clockwise? Many thanks, 1998 S reg, 1.2

Its a normal right hand thread as far as i'm aware. Probably just tight.
