Allen, On the 13 June you answered a question about 197 oil consumption saying that it could be as high as 1.3 litres per 1000 miles. With all due respect, modern engines shouldn't use any oil between oil changes. Oil consumption is a result of abuse. I've never owned a car (from new) that actually consumed oil between changes. Here how its done: Adhere to a strict "running in" period of 1000 miles and then change the oil for full synthetic. On EVERY journey, allow the oil to heat up thoroughly for 8 miles before going beyond 3000 rpm. Change the oil every 8000 miles using a good full synthetic only. BTW, my current car is a Lotus Exige S which also uses no oil between changes. Convinced?

Allen Collen responds
Thanks for the advice.

So he commented on a comment and used a Lotus (with a Toyota engine) for an example about the oil French cars shouldn't use... ?

Or something? :p
