G220 given up...

Polished a 172 this weekend, literally just going to correct the headlights and my polisher died :(

There's a small buzz from it, but no motion.

Completely dead?
Worth anything as spares/repairs?
Time to buy a rotary?!

Motor issue I would say..the buzzing your hearing will be the motor drawing current/power but not doing anything :(

  #174
Mine died a while back too mate, just dropped megs an email and took it down and they swapped it for a new one :)

Did you buy yours when they first came out? The early ones had some speed control issues...

take the back off of it and check that the brushes are still alive. think there are known problems with the speed switches as well, so could be worth disturbing the wiring to the switch to see if that achieves anything

Taking the back off will void any warranty that may left Henry mate.

Pep, do as Matt said, give them a buzz and see what's what before you do anything else. Might be worth letting us know how you get on as well for future reference for anyone else on here.

there aren't any warranty stickers/seals on it (or there weren't on mine) - providing you don't chew the screws up, they'd never know. they'd probably not be all that bothered if they did i wouldn't have thought

it's just a v expensive(!) angle grinder - typical internals

suggestion anyway

LOL no! Just an excuse to buy a rotory any way Joe. Jamie - you are lacking behind with your pish DA. Gay! :D

  Not a 320d
I used to use the G220 mate, went through three replacements before giving up on them, about as reliable as a 2nd gen ipod....... I would buy a rotary, theyre not scary like people seem to make out but you need to get the knack of not leaving holograms everywhere it can be a little difficult at first, you can pick them up very cheaply these days, try silverline or kestrel.

Was planning on a rotary early next year ready to use, but keep on with the G220 for now, doesnt look like that will play out!

I'll get in touch with megs, worth a shot I suppose!

i'm not sure what they'll do if it's so long out of warranty, but worth a call. they had lots of problems with early ones (i'm assuming the later ones are 'fixed' - ?), and were just swapping them without quibble

if no joy, just have a poke around inside it - 2minute job - be a shame to write it off if it's just the brushes or dodgy wiring (you can buy brushes BTW)

Spoke to Megs, gonna send it off to them tomorrow and they're gonna have a look over it.
Said they dont do repairs but going to inspect it for wear and tear, then either return it to me or propose some other course of action. So have to see what they say next week.

Maybe my headlight correction was too much for it the week before. It was dire afterall (my lights that is) :p

Just had a call from Meguiars, said it's out of warranty, but it's one of the dodgy batch they had, and because they can tell it hasn't been abused, they're sending out a brand spanker to me :D

Very pleased with the service.
