G3, by hand?

Evening all. First off, I have no idea about detailing etc, so bear with me.

So my dad has a wee scuff on his car and has been doing a bit of research, and has come to me asking about this: http://www.g3pro.com/ . Now having read quite a few threads in this section, I'm quite sceptical about what it claims to do. I have Googled it, and everything I have read seems to suggest it's really meant for machine polishing. However, the videos on that site (found here: http://www.g3pro.com/watch-videos.php) suggest it's all just as simple as a quick squirt, a small rubbing pad and Bob's your Uncle.

Anyway, my question is is that stuff any good and will it actually remove small suffs (not deep scratches, I know it won't) and not leave his (or mine if I were to use it) paint in a complete mess, or in fact in the same state before he started?

Thanks for any info given!

Ive used compounds like M105 on a microfibre cloth to remove paint transfer and small scuffs so I cant see why not, Also used that technique to remove nastly looking yellowish s**t on a white finish, only did the bumpers and skirts mind. Only time ive used G3 was when id run out of wet sanding paper and wanted to remove a bad etching mark from paintwork. But I had to compund that after doing it and then use finser polishes to get it back looking normal again.

Can you get a photo up, G3 might be too much really.

I'll get a photo up tomorrow. Thanks for the info so far though.

He's only asking me as he wan't me to go halves on the stuff, lol. But my paint is in such a state that the whole thing needs machine polished. I really don't see the point in me sorting one or two scuffs and have the rest still looking like s**t.

Well unless you really work the polishes in theyre going to leave hazy swirl marks. Its how well you want to take care of your car and how anal about defects you are. Perhaps its best you invest in a machine polisher, that way you can remove the scuffs and sort your own car out.

Key question, what car is it?

If you're talking BMW/VAG paint work, machine polishing is likely to be your only option as the paint is just too hard to even start making headway.

If it's Renault paint, Menzerna 203s on a Lake County Hand Cut Pad could help. Failing that, P1 from GTechnic has had superb results by hand.

I used G3 and M105 on BMW's. One was a while 1 series with the most disgustingly hard paint ive ever come accross and the other a 5 series.

i used g3 by hand, i thought the results were really good, i used a damp cloth thou because i was told you could take paint off if you dont use it damp... i just rubed it in the designated spot left it for a minute or so and took it off, if i didnt like the results i did it again leaving it to cure for a little longer...

His car is a Toyota, mine is VAG.

In response to the "invest in your own machine polisher". I have thought about it. However, having read previously about VAG paint being really hard, I figured it might not be worth it for a novice like myself. Also, I'm scared to do it lol

G3 should attack the damage. Just be careful with it and keep checkin on your progress. Once you've removed the damage, go over it with a less abrasive polish.

G3 is a polish. There is no curing involved...? It's not a sealant!

Don't be. It gets a bad name. Even with VAG paint, a decent machine polish by a N00b will do wonders.

But with the sacrifice of how much paint?

Pics would really help Scott.

Well if the damage is really bad and he doesn't want to go near a machine polisher, what other options does he have?

But yes, pics are needed before any firm suggestion can be made.

Ok guys bear with me here. Got a few pics but I'm doing this on my phone so not sure if it's all going to work. None of the scratches in the pic are deep enough to catch my nail in.

That's on the bonnet of his car. The car is only a couple of months old so don't really want him using something that is going to make the situation worse.

Cheers for the help so far!

Ps: I won't be able to get better pics for a few days as he doesn't get home from work until 7 when it's dark.

G3 in the bin and get someone to machine polish it.

If you bring it to my work i'll take it out for you.

As above. If you don't want to, 203s/p1 with a hand pad will eventually get it out. But you're talking the time it takes to machine most of the car!!

It's s**t. It also doesn't work by hand, you'll just makes things worse.

It's a bodyshop special all you'll do is inflict holograms in the paint.
