Gain

  Not a Clio

Im not very up on ICE. The previous owner of my car fitted the ice and I havent touched it apart from to sort out the hissing the speakers were making (power cable wrapped round the speaker cables under the floor) I noticed on the amp that the Gain is turned up to almost maximum.

What exactly is Gain?

  don't

dont think its 2 healthy for the amp witht he gain all the way up, bit of a struggle

what size amp is it?? how many watts rms if u know

sounds like he may have installed a lower powered amp but ran it at full power to give enough out still

max gain should never be used really!! distorts the sound too much!! but you dont want the volume on the headunit up too high either as u want the amp doing more work than the headunit (if that makes sense! lol!)

In basic terms then its like a volume dial on the amp. The more your turn it up, the more it puts out. Once you have it at max(Or near) the sound wont be the best and the life of your amp might be affected, if you want more just swap the amp out for a bigger unit and run it at a lower level.

90w rms at full gain would kill most coaxal and component speakers!!

(unless your talking some of the seriously high end stuff!!)
