Gains?

  Ph1 172
Hi,

Sorry if this has been asked before as im sure it has! Ive just come from the saxp forum after selling my vtr and getting a clio ph1 172. Anyway my question is do these engines respond well to breathing mods? Im guessing manifold, full system, standard airbox with panel filter? i know its a silly question to ask but what sort of gains would you see from those? Cams and ITBs are something im looking at but for now just the first 3 mods, any help would be much appreciated

182 manifold with give minimal gains as will the exhaust, filter will make no difference tbh.. The F4R is a pain to get power from unless you have big ££££

I guessed that would be the case! Its a shame because my vtr and my vts both responded really well to breathing mods! I think im going to look at cams with a map aswell then!

Loads of saxo members buying 1*2s recently, you won't get any real gains without spending big bucks.

You could count the HP gain on one hand....

The basic tuning steps are matched inlets, V6 airbox, Remap, Exhaust (yozza) and decat. You might see 6-7hp at absolute most, but the driveability and mid range power will be vastly improved.

Ye stripping it is a good idea, but i love the seats too much! lol theres a ph1 stripped with a rollcage and yozzasport exhaust with filter and hes a good 3 cars on me by about 80 so there is a difference v6 airbox? never really thought about that, so bang for buck i'd be better off with a 1.6 16v?

Why would you be better with a 1.6 16v? You'd have to spend thousands on a 1.6 to make it anywhere near as quick as a 172 is straight out the box.

Back to matched inlets then, anyone know anywhere close to Leeds that does this,k tech is miles away?

I've done a guide for fitting a 182 manifold to a 172 (not as easy as you might think-subframe drop). The 10ps gain between the cars (although it's not actually that much) is the exhuast system (manifold and high flow cat) and the slightly better RS stamped intake manifolds with a map to suit. The manifold with a decat is a worthwhile mod if you can do it yourself, otherwise too costly. A few places offer matched inlets on an exchange basis which are worthwhile too.

After that, extra power becomes expensive.

No mate the closest place to us up in Yorkshire that does them is jam sport. That's a trek tbh. Your better off buying a set that are already done and fitting them.

I would check the cambelt timing unless it was done by a specialist, could see a few gains there.
