Garage Prices

Car  RB 182
Just wondered what people thought about the cost I've got to pay for my gearbox refurb? Looks like its going to be £935 all in. The work includes, strip the box, repair the internals (three bearings, two selector forks & a 2nd hand 5th gear they had at the garage), new clutch and put back in the car.

Search for "Agency Transmissions" on here mate

Might be cheaper if you get a second hand gearbox get it rebuilt by them and then get it fitted and sell your old one on as needs rebuilding

That's what I would have done but I just got the garage to go ahead with the work because I told them to work to £500-600 which they were until I get a call saying its going to be £935. Is this over the odds for the work do you think? I know its a labour intensive job which will be most of the cost I suppose.

IIRC my new gearbox I bought from Renault was about £900ish then plush labour to fit.

Seems a bit costly for rebuild.

Thanks for the guide. They did say the parts weren't that costly, it's mainly labour. I did get them to put a new clutch in so thats an extra £100 I suppose.

A local renault specialist in the north east, quite well regarded and I suppose not many places can refurbish a gearbox which they say the have great knowledge of the cup one. I just wanted to check I wasn't being ripped off that's all.

My advice would be to contact agency transmission for a quote add labour to remove + refit, then work out how competitive your garage is being.
