I know these are track cars not road cars, but surely he's trying to get as close to a track/handling setup as poss.
As you say yourself a track is not a public road.
My understanding of it is the lower you go the more you have to increase your damping/spring rates to compensate for the reduced suspension travel, before you hit bump stops or catch the arches.
'Forward rake' or back slightly higher then the fronts is the preferred method for a front wheel drive car. I assume in a similar way to a rear driver benefitting from the car squatting down and putting wieight over the rear wheels a front drive car takes weight off the front wheels reducing grip. If the back is slightly higher then the front the car squats level reducing this effect.
IMO setting up your road car to be as close to a stripped out cup car with rear coilovers that races on smooth tracks is not the best way forward.
When I discussed the setup of my car with the bloke at Northampton Motorsport he said he might take 10mm out of the ride height front and rear but would maintain a slight forward rake. He said doing this was not worth the hassle as the difference would be neglidgeable.
