Gear Box oil

Tried searching on here but there's no pictures with the descriptions of where to top the geabox oil up or I couldn't find any.

In the pictures, is this where the gearbox oil is topped up?

You can, but it's not

there is butterfly clip on the front of the gearbox, behind the clurch cable

Only the fact you won't be able to tell how much is in there i'd have thought.

See the arm that the clutch cable goes into?

it's kinda below that, the clutch cable will be blocking your view of it.

butterfly is white/black plastic, on the front of the box down the side.

Fill it through this hole with a flexy spout steadily until the oil dribbles out and your at the right level.

Hmm, I think I'm missing the butterfly clip, found another hole which is attached to the gearbox but it's pointing towards the right. There's definitely no plastic clip anywhere as I've looked all around the front of the box for it.

if there is a hole on the front its missing otherwise you'll see it ;)

Its on the front face of the box (radiator side bang in the middle.) Have a reach around you'll find it.

it's difficult to see from above but would be easier if you removed the airbox - should be a plastic 'wingnut' affair on the front of the box (sort of behind the rad)

short length of (clean) hosepipe would do to fill it up with - obv. need to do it with the car level, so don't jack it up

how much oil have you got and do you know how old the stuff that's in it is? it takes 3L for a full change

it's not much bother to revisit it (once you've figured it out), but would be inclined to change it rather than top it up if it's the original oil

ed. typing too slowly, largely been said

How would you drain the box Henry? Seems me and jonff are working through the same things lol.

sump key at the rear of the box near the gear selector arm - no need to remove the undertray as its a lot further back than the engine oil plug. Replace the washer once you've drained it.

Sorry mate, didn't notice your questions in your post before.

The level of oil currently in seems to ok as when I stuck my little finger in the hole it got covered in oil, not sure how old it is as the previous owner would have done any changes/top up.
