Gear shift light wiring- Phase 1. What is needed?

  ph1 172 Excl, Cossie
Hi All,

As mine is a later Phase 1 on the Y, mine doesnt have the factory gearshift light that the earlier cars have.

Does anyone have any experience of the circuits, feeds, wiring and whatnot needed for this to work?

Thanks a lot

It should already have it and if not it may be worth having your clockset bulbs checked.

Loads of ph1s dont though Mick, none of mine have so far. Is it just a case of switching it on in CLIP?

That was going to be my next port of call. It's deffo not a case of turning it on as an option but i'm sure a software reflash would add it.

I'd need a donor car to experiment with though to be able to say for sure.

Thanks for the info guys, very much appreciated.

I have to ask the question though- what is CLIP?

Thanks again

Oh man, so it's a main dealer visit then?!

Thats going to be one expensive light actuation eh?!

Fpmsl @ people who don't know when to change gear!! Max torque etc is long gone by the time the light would come on.

  A special one.
It's not about that imo, if mine had it then id want it to be working.

It would bug me tbh.
Weeksy AlexW might be able to sort this.

It'd be more useful if it came on at the actual optimal shift point for each gear as it's hard to remember which one of 5 different RPMs you need to shift at next.

Ah. Now that could be a slight stumbling point!

surely someone has done this in the past?

amd it's not because I need it, it's because I want it as I know some have it. Just like the alloy bonnet thing eh Scotty boy?!

where do I check first to see if there is any hint of there being any provision for this to work from please guys?

obviously it won't be a case of fitting a fuse and a bulb! So not all clocksets are compatible?! This is sounding increasingly painful / expensive!

thanks

What is the scoop then - if it illuminates or not?

Thanks a lot mr

Hahaha, how do you know me so well already Scotty boy?!

I was thinking of reasons to leave work early!!

Dan, what does this stalk pushing do? Some sort of test circuit?

Thanks

I'd just pull the clockset out to see if there's a bulb in position and if not fill it.

In the case of the 172 Cup (which doesn't have ABS) it's as simple as the bulb not being there (put a non-Cup clockset in its place and the ABS light is always on).

No light came up from pressing the right hand stalk in and switching on the ignition dudes.

next step clocks out and fit the bulb and repeat the above then?

thanks

I miss the simplicity of the older cars. I cannot wait to get a Mk1 in my life again.

Another exclusive owner says there's no circuit foil for this!

Now that has stumped me!!

Not an overly difficult obstical to over come. Firstly confirm the wiring is in place then add the track.

I will whip the clocks out and have a little looksy over the weekend I think.

It's ecu pin 65.

Btw does anyone know what pin it is for the ph2? I've got a gen90 ecu so I don't have my shift light anymore :( not that I need it but I'd like it working.
