Gearbox - any known issues???

I have had my 172 cup about 2 months and a noob to the site.
Now I know the car better than my test drive, I have noticed a painful grind when shifting to 3rd. Is this a common problem with the gearbox?
A mate said to look at the synchros?

Advice needed!!

Doesn't sound good.

First thing to check is gearbox oil level and dogbone mount for excess wear.

If both of those are ok, new synchros/box needed

Any idea of cost? just been searching through older threads... 300 seems to be a ball park figure. it only happens about 40% of the time but when i am snap changing its unavoidable.
its the only problem i have other than the previous owner's speaker choice and arrangement!!!

Sounds like your gearbox is on its way out mate, same thing happened to a mate of mine.

Word of warning, dont leave it too long, his totally messed, and had to get a new gearbox and clutch for £1300.

I'd fit a clutch at the same time, Its false economy not doing it!

Stick a lightened flywheel in too
