Gearbox expert needed ! (Fred, sideways danny etc)

  LY 220 Trophy+IB PH1
Got a strange niggle (That will no doubt end up being a huge issue) from the gearbox that I've not seen before. Basically on idle the car ticks, now the confusing part is it isn't the engine its the gearbox ! Looking at the fork I can see it wobbling like mad :S depressing the fork lightens the sound but I can tell the shacking and ticking is still there somewhere inside the box. Car drives fine, each gear selects fine - the only issue it has is it makes a noise coming down from 3rd to 2nd (Not always only sometimes) and I'm not sure if its normal but when driving the gearbox is quite audible (Kinda like a v6 sorta noise. sounds out there but it's the best I can describe it)

I fear the syncros are going/gone and I really don't want to have to pull the box out :(

The clutch was changed by the previous owned, checking the receipt the part used was a "Transmech clutch kit" costing £124.19 from Euro car parts. Also the box had an oil change at the time with "S&A heavy duty synthetic oil 75w/90"

I've purchased some Fuchs sinto fluid to do an oil drop as I fear it may need to come out :(

I'll get a vid uploaded in a sec as these things are often easier to comment on when you can see the issue.

Cheers
Paul

1st problem: clutch release bearing or main shaft bearing gone

2nd problem: probably syncros on the way out.

To solve issue 1 you need to take the gearbox apart, may get a rebuild aswell then.

Might have to turn the volume up a bit, ignore me trying to get a good position with the camera - was trying to not lose my hands to the rad fan lol

Most of that noise is from the gearbox although it is difficult to make out, there isn't alot of noise coming from the cam cover area - more from the middle of the inlet which im guessing in the injectors

Which one Danny ? if I depress the clutch the noise does quieten down a little from the gearbox, if I prod the accelerator the noise increases with the rev's but I'm fairly certain there isn't any knocking from the left hand side of the engine, just a light tapping/clicking from the front/middle of the inlet (Along with that god awful Billy Elliot gearbox)

I've got a vid from inside the car which shows a slightly bobbing idle, I was going to get the belts changed soon anyway to be honest along with the water pump and dephaser so if it is shot it's no biggie (Unless it goes between now and then)

New ICV fitted also

(Oh its also worth mentioning I have not yet plugged the hole in the bulk head from the cup setup so cabin noise is a little higher than normal)
if you skip to 2/3 in it seems a little tractor like upto 4k

Edit: just realised a strange noise coming down the revs towards the end at about ~2200 RPM - WTF is that 0.o

Dread to ask the question, but how much am I looking at for full belt change with depahser and water pump and sorting that gearbox (assuming it just needs a small repair and not a full rebuild)

JC/JB boxes have no such thing as a "small repair" £300 MINIMUM just on the box if you're lucky

that's really an engine out job (cheaper to remove the lot) you need to budget £1k - £1200ish

Cheers Fred, I'll get the cash together + contingency. 2 small questions I'm guessing you will need to hold onto the car for a few days and as the engine is coming out would you change the manifold to a 4-2-1 ? Only reason I ask is because I hope this is the last time it's out and there an arse to fit taking the subframe off lol I can supply the part.

Regards
Paul
