Gearbox full of bisto

Ever since I had my clutch changed my gearbox is behaving like a total pig. When it's cold it WILL NOT go into first gear at anything above about 2miles an hour, and crunches between third and fourth, which it never did before.

When it's warm it's ok but still not great, I remember it being a lot smoother before. So anyway, I'm wondering whether this is down to the garage refilling my gearbox with lumpy gravy, but don't really want to change it if it'll make no difference. What do you think?

Check the linkage first.

If it's anything like an RS, it's a hit and miss affair lining it up. Most **** it up first time,.

I did have a scramble under the car the other day and the linkage felt pretty loose, but I'm not sure how loose is normal!

It's also making a single knock when you take your foot off the gas, which sounds like it's coming from under the gear stick.

Going to get it up on axle stands this weekend and have a proper look :(

As Budgie said its trial and error wether the linkage has been tightened back up in the right place

Dogbone mount is next on my list of things to do, but I've been putting it off until my year's warranty runs out. The garage I bought the car from will use literally any excuse to wriggle out of paying up so I don't want to take any chances with modifying things yet!

How can you tell if the linkage isn't right?

When cold, and engine off, it should go into all gears reasonably comfortably.

With what you've said, it sounds like dogbone mount's a bit sloppy, but a gearbox oil change and linkage adjustment are cheap possibilities.
