gearbox gone

  Clio 172 02
ok so gearbox went on my 172 yesterday, got it trailered to a clutch/gearbox specialist in Coventry....

been quoted £860 for recon of box and a new clutch with fitting.... £360 if I supply a box includes clutch fitting.

Options I am guessing are, go with the above but is £££ or I find someone who can remove and getting reconned at agency, or source one and get that fitted also by someone.

Unfortunately I am completely unhandy with the spanners/havent got a clue on DIY.

Sounds about right to me for removal ,rebuild, new clutch and refit.

Won't be massivley cheaper going the other route unless you find someone to remove and refit for pennies.

as above, sounds a decent enough deal, labour for removal and fitting is a killer on clutches/boxes

Had an uncle who removed a box himself, but the realization of getting it back in himself made him practically s**t himself, he was sat on the floor and was squat kicking it back in, felt bad for the old man; his words not mine.

Thanks chaps, is the preferred option always to replace the clutch regardless of condition? I am bit gutted as I want a better sport than this one preferably a cup, caught the bug!

Yes change the clutch, because if you get a noisy release bearing or something else goes wrong you will be looking between £295 -£450 dependant on where you go.

Don't fit cheap s**t clutches either, go for Valeo or iirc LUK have a decent bit of feedback on here
