Gearbox mount

Is this a common issue, i'm interested in a 172 Cup and it seems tidy apart from the guy selling it tells me it makes a knocking sound in 1st and 2nd and after taking it to a garage says its the gear box mount.

Does this sound right? Any knocking issues worry me.

Lastly if it is the GB mount what sort of price would it cost to replace?

Could be the upper gearbox mount or the upper engine mount. Common problem because they're not the best of quality.

they're pretty soft and allow a fair amount of movement when worn, which gives you the knocking (there's not a lot of room between the manifold and the subframe)

the upper gearbox mount is about £20ish; EuroCarParts or GermanSwedishFrench keep them. the engine mount is about £50. neither are particularly difficult to fit

i'd go for it if that's all you can find wrong with the car!
