Gearbox noise on Cup (or mk2 172)

Noticed tonight that my Cup (less than 600 miles old) makes a whining noise in 1st gear (like when in reverse) and Im sure it aint meant to do that!

Also, there appears to be a rattle or vibration (in any gear) when cornering, coming from the area of the gearbox I think, but I could just be imagining that. Anyway, there is a noise and its noticeable going round long corners, such as big roundabouts, or slip roads on/off the motorway, etc...

Anyone else got this, or is my gearbox dodgy???



Will be getting it checked by the dealer this week anyway...

Sounds like your gearbox is low in oil! Sounds like a warranty job.

My gear box had a oil leak, ended up being a seal or something.

Surely on a brand new car, with a brand new gearbox (thats so far not been hammered as Im running it in), then the gearbox should be ok...

I had too much oil in the gearbox when I had it in the dealers the other week! The gear change is a lot smoother now its at the right level.

I get the same rattle going round right-handers and roundabouts. People on here have had engine mounts replaced and gearbox bolts tightened which have cured some of the clonks. Just rung the dealer now...

Gearbox whine in 1st gear only is not good apparently!

If it was low on oil it would make a noise in all gears, not just 1st and its also stiff getting out of 5th now, so I have been told to drive it carefully and get it in ASAP, so its going in this afternoon.

Vibration rattle is 99% the heatshield apparently, so that will be sorted tonight, whether its the heatshield, or something else that needs tightening up.


Its also started beeping at me constantly after I disabled RAID (auto door locking) so thats been p!ssing me off too...

Well... Im getting a new gearbox!!!

Surely a record at just over 600 miles and Ive been running it in too...
