Gearbox oil change on valver

Right having already done this on a 1.4 rt, im confident that i could do it on the Valver. Basically all i did last time was drain the old oil from the drain plug put back the plug and fill it up from a hole at the side of the gear box with auto-transmition fluid (red) until it flowed out, this was at capacity. After i did this the car felt like it had got a new gearbox and solved the problem of not being able to select second.

My question is if i repeat the process on the valver, is the anything i should do/check and is auto fluid ok to use on a high performance car. I was told its the same as synthetic performance gearbox oil by a professional just cheaper! are the filling and emptying positions in about the same place, hard to get to?

the valver box is a j type the same as your rt. do the same as you did before and use the overflow method from the filler plug to get the level ok(oil level should be level with the filler plug hole). make sure the vehicle is level though(not jacked up). we use trx 75/90 gear oil.

I was told automatic transmission fluid was the best by a gearbox specialist -Eddie Rose from mansfield it sorted my problem and is about £5 for lires of the stuff! Is this not true then!

I have a great tip for people attempting this for the first time well it worked for me anyway. Get the 5l drum of gearbox oil and insert a syphoning pipe (£1 or so from a wine making shop) Then stick the drum on the car roof, stick the other end in the gear box and let gravity do the rest. Monitor the drip tray from inside the house when it starts to overflow run out and take the tube out of the hole put the bung back in job done. lots easier than using them stupid top up bottles.

or use a funnel with a flexi pipe and it takes 2 mins to fill.

trx 75w/80 is whats reccomended, and synthetic box oil really is a must with this box.

apparently auto transmition fluid has the same chemical compesition/viscosity as synthetic box oil just its red in colour so the specialist told me anyway although i would like this confirming before i use it

Not quite.

synth manual box oil still comes in VIS ratings.
