Gearbox oil - worth doing?

I'm on track at Anglesey next month and then 1 day a month all year after that - so just doing a big of a service on the Clio

Ordered plugs, oil, oil filter, ht leads (mine are shot) etc.. etc.. but then thought about gearbox oil
I've read the threads on here with people saying it never needs doing - but it's a track car and it's on 115k

I've looked through the old receipts and Sir_Dave bought the car on 52k in jan 2008 and did a gearbox oil change in september 20008 - which was probably around 62k - it's done another 53k since then on the same gearbox oil as far as I can tell.
I'm guessing after 53k it's worth changing?

Definitely. I change mine every 12k, or whenever I accidentally pull shafts out of gearboxes

That's what I thought was weird - I replaced it every year on my 106 gti at the same time as the main oil change
Never changing gearbox oil sounds weird

Cheers guys - I've ordered 5 litres of elf transfelf 75w-80 - will get that changed next week :D

the MA box in a 106 I believe is "sealed for life" supposedly but I never buy into that, its easy to whip the plugs out drain and fill all for about £30

What? Same as the Clio- you pull the N/S driveshaft out, you get wet.

Box oil is said to be good for 100k miles (which most manufacturers will state is 'the life of the vehicle'). Every 12k might be a bit excessive, though.

For the sake of £27, get it done. The boxes get given death, especially on track.

Drain out box oil that's been in there 100k and check the condition of it, my bet is it'll be thinner and reflective, lol. Every 30k or so is my recommendation.

Probably a bit anal of me, but I do change my oil at 3000 miles. I do roughly 12k a year though and for the sake of 30 minutes work I prefer to change it annually, I dont see the point in keeping old oil in there especially for £30~

ps how much did you pay for the tranself stuff? need to pop clean stuff some in my track car soon

Definitely, it's lethal stuff but if its never been done you can't be sure of the level either. Think of all the sworf that might be in there munching away as well :p
