Gearbox Problems?

Hello,

Around a Month ago - my car developed an awful rattling noise, I took it to the garage straight away and was told there was a leak in the Gearbox and the Gearbox had been running completely dry.

since then my car has had an awful Whisteling noise when driving in either 3rd or 5th, soon as I push the clutch in the noise stops

do you think this problem could be solved?

if so, is it an expensive job?

if the box has been running dry for a while it will likley need a re build... and the wining noise is a clear sign that there has been some damage done, have a look around for a second hand box and have it re built if u cant afford to have the car off the rd for a few days...

How much would a gear box rebuild cost?

i had mine rebuilt by agency transmission came to £275, i'd defiantly recommend going there.

I just had mine done at Agency Transmission for same cost. Although after refitting I have a whine in all gears. I'm still trying to figure out what's causing it, but rang Agency and gave me advice and a few things to check such as driveshafts (bearing 2 part one etc) and if problem persists he is more then happy for me to send back and check and sort for free. Really helpful and nice guy. Knows his stuff highly recommend him just unfortunate thing with my box/drive shaft. Point is there really good and price is good and excellent after service.

Its just a shame its a Pita taking the gearbox out... £275 is cheap enough to have a gearbox refreshed and like new.. But getting it out and in costs a bomb unless you have the time and tools to do it yourself.
