gearbox rebuild

Car  clio 172 no2/ yzf r1
am gunna go down the route of having a gearbox rebuild rather than getting another 1 ,does any1 have a rough idea of the cost of this ,also any reccomendations in the bournemouth area

Not too sure around the Bournemouth area I'm afraid but the two that I know of for the clio are Agency which are based in Worcester and number is: 01905 24896 also Gearbox man/ CTS are based in Hertfordshire and number is 01582 840008 I had mine done by CTS and I think it cost £345+ vat but not 100% on that! Think it depends on what is required, Hope that helps

Agency Transmissions

He will only charge for what needs doing.Top bloke, and has all the bits on the shelf.Mention Burpspeed if you phone him,for a good price.;)

I'm thinking i may get another box to rebuild and put on for peace of mind. Where are agency based?

Is that a joke or are the boxes really that bad on these? Agency are based in Worcester

A joke? No. I've just a got a few track days planned, lemans etc. So i want a fresh box for peace of mind as mines done a few miles and never been changed. Ive done too many in my times.

PMSL. I think most 1*2's are scared of me now.

Saying that, I've kept as many on the road as I've broken. Almost. (;

y not run the box on there now until it gives up. may last longer than you think and perhaps save you forking out unnecessarily

I cant see the point in going to the hassle of taking out a working box to have it rebuilt TBH, awful lot of effort to go to if there is nothing wrong with it.
Different if it was a race car, but for just doing a few trackdays you may as well use what you have to begin with.

Hadnt seen your post when I hit reply, fair enough, if you just want the peace of mind and are preared to pay for it then go for it.

Why not buy a new box from renault then? At least that way it has a meaningful guarentee?

My car has done over 100k. I use it daily. I want to go to lemans, the ring etc next year.

Its much easier to plan to swap it over a weekend than it is for it to break. Sourse bits. Be without a car unplanned or recover it from abroad. ;)

Haha there is method to my madness. That could be an idea. There is a box thats done 34k local to me but its from a cup. That would have been ideal send off for a refresh but aparently there's issues with a cup box on a 182..

I agree totally, the boxes on these things are so fragile they need all the help they can get if you want to rely on the car!
