gearbox stuck in gear

just bought a gearbox off ebay , its been delivered but is stuck in gear, somebody said remove end cap and put a screw driver in and flick the dowels is this correct??

My 182 box did this once, so I put a big screwdriver above the selector lever to pull it down towards 5th, then tapped it up towards reverse and that freed it off and its been perfect ever since

I know a lad with a 197 this happened to. We ended up rocking it out of gear.
