Gearbox went today

Was driving on the motorway today and lost drive but gearstick was still in 5th. 3RD and 4TH were a no go but 1st and 2nd were as normal. Anyone had this problem before?

Dogbone mount maybe let go causing you having gear selection problems, or on the worse of it a internal problem.

this happend to my old polo GTi, i had to have a recon done, but the polo GTi's were shocking for their box's lol should be able to pick a cheap box up for the clio i recon

sounds like box has gone to me mate.
I have a box from a phase 1 172 for sale thats only done 65k for £200. I was gonna keep it as a spare, but you need it more than me lol.

cheers for that mate, appreciate it, i take it they are the same as the phase 2's are they? Im taking it to the garage this aft to get it taken out and seen to by a gearbox specialist to see how bad it is and i will let you know.

ah thought yours was a phase 1. i know you cant use the phase 2 on a phase 1 as no speedo drive. I'm not sure about the other way round. Someone should be able to clarify though.

Yeh get it checked first, its prob the circlip, which can be replaced, but when they go once, they tend to go again.
