Gearbox whine in 2nd, 3rd and 5th. Burnt oil.

  Clio 1.2 16v dynamiq
I suspect my manual gearbox has a leak as the gear noise increases as I turn corners and go up hills. Burnt oil can be smelt in the car. No oil is found on my drive so the leak is considered minor. General forum advice recommends filling the gearbox. I will do this but I cannot identify where the filler point for the gearbox is on this model. I note there is a filling point (see image) http://i1232.photobucket.com/albums/ff363/mark1brituk/IMGP1596.jpg that the leak appears to be originating from. I know little of this vehicle type and presume it to be the clutch fluid filling point. At the end of the day I suspect a major and expensive drive train issue needs to be addressed. I thought I'd start with the cheapest possible remedy. Please identify the component in the image and where the filler point for the gearbox is. If any of you can identify the possible reasons I'd appreciate that. Go easy guys, you're not exactly dealing with Edd China Bsc.

Thats the gearbox breather,if you look a little further down, you will see a butterfly nut thingy, plastic,it faces forward, this is where you fill it.
Fill it until it comes out the hole you are filling it from, awkward to get to as well.

The gearbox took nigh on a litre of oil before filled. I hooked up the gear oil container from above using some spare medical grade airline. A car 'IV push' if you will. Sadly the top up made little difference. You're right Tony, it was a pig to reach but fortunately my knuckle skin has now all but grown back... As I drive it daily it's difficult to tell if the noise has got any louder. The MOT history points to an oil leak as an advisory along with an issue to do with the anti roll bar. As there is so much oil covering components such as the o/s CV gaiter, it's very difficult to narrow this problem down. Any suggestions anyone?
