Gearbox whirring noise

Car  BMW E30 325iiiiii
I was sittin in my 182 earlier today with my foot resting on the clutch, when i heard a whirring noise.
As i put my foot on it slowly, the noise dissapeared half way thru pushing it to the floor, and once fully down it was back again...is this normal because sum1 told me it has a hydraulic clutch and it was just the pump workin, where as sum1 else suggested it cood be the thrust bearing.

any ideas??

Thanks

Scadden :)

cable clutch on these mate. And the whirring is probably normal unless its excessively loud. All my cars' gearboxes have made a slight whirring noise when clutch down. It can only be heard with the stereo off and if your really quiet.
