Looking for advice. I reckon I have 2 separate problems but any help appreciated. I have a 2003 172. I think the gearbox selector seal is gone. Lost all oil and now 5th Gear has disappeared. Selector still goes into position but no drive.

I have found the selector seal kit online and videos on how to do this.

Do I also need to take end cover off and tighten 5th gear nut? Is there a video for this?

If you’re replacing the selector shaft seal with the 2 piece bush kit, it’ll most likely leak worse than it already does. They’re shite.

You need to find out where you’re leak is coming from before you go any further, and to replace the selector shaft seal properly, you have to strip the box down.

Regarding losing 5th gear, you ideally need to remove the end cover so you can see what’s going on.
