General info on the Clio 182

  Insignia & Clio 182
Hi all, my son has bought an '04 Clio 182 without asking Dad's advice and with no idea of maintenance or potential costs involved. He isn't sure if the cam belt has been changed so I am quite concerned as to it's age & condition.
I have good knowledge of engine maintenance although don't work regularly on new motors but there appears to be no car or engine manuals for this vehicle online.
Has anyone got information as to where I can get hold of any engine manual (not had chance to check engine code yet)? I presume the cam belt change will need the usual set of expensive set up tools.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers.

Hi Cush, welcome to the club! :D

The F4R engine is very complex with regards to the cambelt. There are a few specialists on here that offer very cheap belt replacements, one of them even admits to preferring to do a clutch on a lamborgini than doing the Belts on a 2.0 Clio!

They are very sensitive to timing and if not 100% spot on, they will be down on power (A good thing from your point of view?! lol) run lumpy and sometimes not even run at all.

The intervals on them are 72,000 miles of 5 years for cambelt, or 36,000 miles or 5 years for the Auxillery belt.

If it's not been done, then it's well overdue. Expensive tools yes, tbqh you would be better off taking it to a specialist on here.

Where are you based?

Newcastle upon Tyne. Just trying to see if it has actually had the belt done. Will see if Renault have any dealer history on it.
Cheers.

As said above I would use a dealer on here. Has the garage u are about to ask done one on a Renaultsport engine before??? If the answer is no then do not take it there!

Even Renault have been known to screw up the timing. Poor timing can mean bent valves as happened to a mate of mine the other month

A noisy dephaser pulley is one to look out for too.

When I bought mine, the cambelt and waterpump had just been done. I had to get it all done again because they didn't bother with the dephaser pulley.
