going to buy a cup

Car  R27 - 77/500
ive just been to look at a cup, very nice liked it, just the only stumbling block is the 40k, i was after a lower mileage one but its clean. anyway just wanted to know if u lot think it should of had cambelt done by now?? he says its ready for service n can reflect this on the price, think i can knock him down with this if it hasnt had belt done? any other things need serviced at this sort of mileage?
thanks

cambelt is around 70 thou by the book, but i had mine done at 50k just to be safe, it should have had a major service @ 36.... has this been done?

i have been told the cambelt change service is expensive.
do they have to take the wing off and take out other stuff to get to the cambelt on a clio.
i dont own a clio just yet but i was told the cambelt servce is around £400-500, i could be wrong. --
can someone with a clio please confirm otherwise ;)

no.... not wing off! its a bigger job on a standard 172 due to the air con in the way etc

not as bad on a cup ;)

its just a pain to be honest, the kit costs £130 for the belt and pulleys etc, then the aux belt will want doing £15 ish.... the rest is labour. You'd be better taking it to a specalist as this would be cheaper

again this doesnt need doing till 72k... but as mentioned above i got mine done @ 50k

oh and make sure the aux belt gets done around 36k as some have been known to fail and take the cambelt with it which= BIG BILL

ok people thanks, not sure if 36k has been done will ask him when i get back to him. it the aux belt a b**ch to do?? hmm rallye seems cheap to run now lol

GT- answer me this please is there much difference to insure a 172 cup to a 172. group difference etc.?

don't think so.... but not sure, apparenly greenlight insurance do a very good deal for standard 172, but can't do it on a cup

somone else should confirm

remember though, its what you want, the standard 172 mk2 phase2, have air con, leather xenon lights abs etc cups don't

not on a cup, ten min job ;)

excellent,

nat, they are same group 16 insurance. dont think there will be great difference

how much did u pay to get ur cambelt done gaz? id hate to pay dealer prices for a cambelt change!!! but in that guide it says not to go to a place that aint done them before, so they got us by the short n curlies.

by a mate that works for reno, it was i kind of you scratch my back kind of deal.....!

where are you based?

cant be bad. my gf's dad owns a good garage but if u reckon its a ball ache job i dont want them to screw it up. im up near carlisle

gt- i know 172 is what im after..ooh the comfort of leather and aircon.. i cant wait

im thinking of getting cup alloys on my 172. not too sure yet.

Insurance groups are the same, but when I went to insure mine they gave me a quote for the car assuming it was a normal 172 (approx £700), then after explaining it was a Cup it was re-entered into the system and the price was reduced by £70 :)

HTH

thanks for that TVO i think i will give directline a ring to quote me on a cup as well. im nore than happy with the 172 qoute they gave me :)
