going to put 172 on a diet... Advice please..

  Italian 3.2 V6
hey guys n girls

After long thoughts I am going to keep my flamer :) relized I would be silly to get rid ofmy gr8 example 172 ;)

So want to improve it :)

Cheapest way to improve is to loose weight... What can I do to the car as it comes standard to loose weight... So far I'm thinking
-remove rear interior
-remove spare wheel

LOL what else can I loose that isn't needed!? How much weight could I loose from doing this... 20-30kg?

Thanks :)

Check the project threads mate, you'll find dead weight under the upper engine mount - 4/5kgs, read through burp's project thread for more detail, can loose alot od weight with fixed buckets

lol sounds like plenty can be taken out. think for now i will remove rear seats and spare wheel... i still want to use the car on an every day-to-day basis so dont want to lose (lol) important luxurys like aircon, passenger seat etc etc... just want to make it abit more agile and fun on the b-roads but practicle at the same time :D ... and getting a cup is too much hastle and ino my 172 is a gooden :D

future to-buy list could be..
-light weight fixed bucket seats,
-15" ultraleggeras

i think that would make a noticable difference :)

I'm not convinced losing weight is necessarily an improvement.
My last car was fully stripped, but it's really noisy as you tend to find that the rear seats act as partial sound deadening. It also looks a bit naff and untidy.

Why not concentrate on getting it in showroom condition, no kerbed wheels, scratches or stonechips? Clean up all the engine bay etc.

i agree car is miles louder without rear seats bench etc, took all mine out of the cup and two days later it was back in lol just minus the isofix bar as cba

swapping the front seats for fixed buckets is the way forwards, and perhaps a new steering wheel too

is there no way of being able to sound proof the rear once the seats etc are all striped out... so its still quiet and alot lighter also probably looking alot neater inside....?

not really mate, just take out the rear seats/bench and parcelshelf, takes 5mins - you'll feel that they dont weigh much.

All the weight is in the fronts with the airbags etc
