GoPro HD Hero mic problems

Hello people,

i have a problem with a go pro hd hero.

i am getting lots of wind noise when using it on my car with both waterproof and non waterproof doors on it.
so I brought a mic, but when I plug it in it goes into 'tel' mode and won't let me record anything I'm guessing its television mode.

Anyone have any idea how I record with a microphone to reduce wind noise?

Not come across that before. I plug an external mic into mine all the time and it's worked fine from the start.

Its like it has been plugged In to television and wont do anything

This is using the 3.5mm jack mic socket?

It's smaller than a normal headphone jack?

Mine isn't, it's a standard 3.5mm jack on the lower left hand side as you view the camera from behind.

Is yours a HD Hero 2? I'm not sure if the spec changed.
